Let There Be Light: European Edition

Let There Be Light: European Edition
  • Dark order books, periodic auctions and systematic internalisers run by electronic liquidity providers all set records for market share in July as over-the-counter activity slumped.
  • Dark books - operated by MTFs and exchanges - surged, accounting for record levels of activity in every major index, apart from the UK 250, that we track.
  • SIs operated by ELPs increased their activity. For every three euros executed by an SI last month, ELPs were responsible for one euro and banks the other two. Only two years ago, bank SIs traded four euros for every euro executed by an ELP SI.
  • Jane Street's JX-EU was the largest ELP SI for a second month, while Citadel Connect Europe and XTX SI both lost market share.
  • LSEG's Turquoise removes the word 'Plato' from the names of its dark venues, ending a nine-year tie-up with the trade body for larger market participants.
