  • Average daily value traded rose 8.47% m/m (+17.97% y/y) to €83.05 billion. Volatility, measured by the VSTOXX average daily close, climbed 11.59% m/m (+5.71% y/y) to 17.78.
  • Closing auctions (+204 bps m/m), opening auctions (+18 bps m/m) and OTC transactions (+9 bps m/m) gained the most market share. Lit continuous trading (-211 bps m/m) fell to a record low, while SIs (-38 bps m/m) and periodic auctions (-21 bps m/m) also lost market share.
  • SIX Swiss Exchange (+99 bps m/m) and Euronext Athens (+35 bps m/m) gained the most on-venue market share; Tradegate BSX (-74 bps m/m) and Deutsche Börse Xetra (-40 bps m/m) lost the most.
  • Of the major national listing exchanges we follow, the London Stock Exchange (+381 bps m/m, UK 250) and Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (+292 bps m/m, ES 35) gained the most market share in their home indices, while Borsa Italiana (-92 bps m/m, IT 40) and Nasdaq Stockholm (-69 bps m/m, SE 30) lost the most.
  • Alternative closing-auction mechanisms accounted for 8.18% of total on-venue end-of-day activity in September, up 47 bps m/m.
