  • The 194 equities listed in both Canada and the US had average daily volume across both countries of 1.21 billion shares in January (+11.30% m/m).
  • Of this total, 815.7 million (+15.44% m/m) traded in the US and 391.1 million (+3.56% m/m) in Canada, for a 2:1 US-CAD split of 67.6%-32.4%.
  • Looking at value traded, the gap is slightly lower, at 67.1% traded south of the border compared to 32.9% north.
  • The US OTC market traded 4.34% of the total value in single-listed Canadian securities, down 14 bps m/m.
  • Average daily volume jumped 22.98% m/m (+70.82% y/y), to 1.50 billion shares.
  • Exchange-traded-product ADV leaped 45.78% m/m to 245.4 million, accounting for 13.31% of equity ADV (+208 bps m/m).
  • Dark-pool market share rose 71 bps m/m (+53 bps y/y) to 6.70%.
  • Hidden orders on lit markets executed 4.79% of Canadian volume in January, up 20 bps from December.
